Frequently Asked Questions
Why a Pro-Choice License Plate?
Pro-Choice motorists are currently denied the opportunity to express their views on a government issued, specialty license plate. Our plate will endow funds to empower women and men to take control of their reproductive lives. We will fund grants for comprehensive sex education, and give women better access to contraception. Florida has the 6th highest teen pregnancy rate and the 45th worst access to contraception, it is clear that we need more preventative measures in place in order to fully educate women and men about what “choice” can mean.
How much is the application fee to the State of Florida?
The State of Florida charges a $60,000 application fee for new specialty license plates. An additional $15,000 is needed for marketing research required by the state of Florida. If you can afford to help, please donate now. Donors have the option of having their name listed on our ‘Friends of United for Choice’ page. In the future we’ll be offering t-shirts and other items to United for Choice donors.
What other criteria must be met before the plate can be accepted?
Marketing research must be conducted to show that 30,000 Florida drivers intend to purchase the plate if the state approves it. This can be done by petition or random sample. If you’re interested please take a moment to sign the petition. We also have to get a legislative sponsor for the plate to take it to Tallahassee; once it’s there it has to be voted on by our elected officials.
How are the proceeds for the plate going to be spent?
Our plate will endow funds to empower women and men to take control of their reproductive lives. We will fund grants for comprehensive sex education, and give women better access to contraception.
